Mainstream Swatch and Review - OPI Starlight 2015 Holiday Collection (Partial)

Press Samples*

Hello lovely readers! Today I have swatches and review of 6 polishes from the new OPI Holiday 2015 collection, Starlight.

The collection is comprised of a total of 18 polishes and offers a variety of colors and finishes, including crèmes, shimmers, and glitter toppers. Today I am reviewing the following 6 polishes: No More Mr Knight Sky, Guys and Galaxies, I Drive a SuperNova, Ro-Man-Ce on the Moon, Is This Star Taken?, and Ce-less-tial is More.

No More Mr Knight Sky
This polish is a grayish blue shade with silver shimmer. The first coat went on pretty sheer but opacity built up quickly. I found the formula to be a bit tricky to apply at first but it did self-leveled after the second coat. Shown below are 2 coats plus top coat.

Guys and Galaxies
This polish is a vampy burgundy creme. The first coat went on sheer as well and the formula was a bit 'jelly like' but it built up quickly.  I applied a generous second coat and the color quickly darken. I found the formula to be a bit tricky to apply but it too eventually self-leveled. Also, I recommend you apply and remove carefully to avoid staining your cuticle area. Shown below are 2 coats plus top coat.

I Drive a SuperNova
This polish is a silver metallic with shimmer. The formula was flawless and it only took 1 coat for full opcaity and self-leveling. Unfortunately, I feel OPI has done this silver polish before. A good example of a dupe would be Silver Canvas from the Color Paints 2015 collection. Shown below is 1 coat plus top coat.

Ro-Man-Ce on the Moon
This polish is a rich red shade with a subtle microshimmer that gives the polish a beautiful glow. I found this to be another flawless 1-coater formula. I know this is another red polish, but it happens to be stunning in person. Shown below is 1 coat plus top coat.

Is This Star Taken?
OPI uses the phrase 'Iridescent icicles fly in this smooth gold' to describe this glittery polish. In the bottle, the glitter and scattered holo in the soft champagne-colored base look very pretty but it does not translate onto the nail. All of the elements in the polish compete with each other, making it difficult to apply. Shown below is 1 light coat over I Drive a SuperNova plus top coat (and it still looks busy!). You can also choose to wear this on itself as it is opaque.

Ce-less-tial is More
This pale rose glitter bomb is the starlight among this set of 6 polishes! It is a textured, full coverage holo glitter. This could be a 1-coater with careful application. Shown below are 2 coats plus top coat.

Overall, there were some great polishes among this set while others did not feel innovative. I tried to keep an opened mind about Is this Star Taken, but it was a case of too much innovation! or were too innovative! My picks are Ro-Man-Ce on the Moon and Ce-less-tial is More. I will be reaching for these again as well as other polishes on the collection that were not featured in this review.

How do you feel about OPI's latest collection? I would love to read your thoughts below!

  7. Ce-less-tial is More is fantastic! I felt the same way as you about the collection. There are definitely some gems, but I see so many dupes from previous collections and then the weird metallic+glitter polishes that are just gross.
