At Home Winter Hand and Cuticle Care

Nothing to Disclose

Hello lovely readers!  My neck of the woods is currently experiencing an extra snowy winter and today I am sharing my routine for conditioning my hands.

oil soaks and sugar scrubs for beautiful hands and cuticles at home

If you've followed by blog for some time, you've witnessed some close and personal shots of my cuticles! I am constantly applying oils and cuticle balms in an effort to keep my fingers photo-ready for swatching nail polish. However, my hands and cuticles tend to need some extra TLC after being exposed in this weather.

Below are two ways I pamper my hands at home whenever my hands and cuticles are extra dry.

Oil soak
I keep several oils at home, including jojoba, grapeseed, avocado, and coconut oil, and I use some of them on a daily basis. For extra dry hands and cuticles, I mix 0.5 oz of a few oils, I microwave the oils for 1 minute, and I soak my cuticles in the warm oil for about 1 minute.

I rub my hands until all of the oil is absolved, and I also apply the oil on my legs, elbows, and any other dry skin areas. I save the leftover oil in a air tight container and I reheat it whenever I need to re-soak my cuticles.

Amazon has several USDA Certified Organic oils that are cruelty-free and priced reasonably. Below are descriptions of some of my go-to oils:

Coconut oil
Coconut oil is naturally antibacterial and antifungal, and the saturated fatty acids in the oil help skin retain its moisture content of the skin.

Jojoba Oil
Jojoba is naturally antibacterial, fast absorbing oil, and and its composition closely resembles the natural sebum produced by skin.

Grapeseed oil
Grapeseed oil is a light weight oil composed of several essential fatty acids and oligomeric proanthocyanidin complexes known for their antioxidant properties.

Avocado oil
Avocado oil is heavy, which acts as a protective barrier while moisturizing.

Sugar scrubs
Hand sugar scrubs are a great way of exfoliating while moisturizing with oils. I highly suggest you browse through Etsy for some great indie sugar scrubs.

You don't have to be a hand model to pamper your hands. Specially if you can easily do it at home!

Do you have any hand care tricks? I would love to hear about it!.

  2. I didn't know that it's that helpful to heat the oil like you do. I need to do that for the skin around my nails.

  8. I really need to get back into scrubs - I did it for so long and then just stopped when I got to my new job (public bathroom vs private) and I miss it.

  11. I've never done an oil soak - thanks for the idea, I have to try it out and hope it softens my cuticles in the dry weather!

  12. I am on a serious program of cuticle butters and oils to keep my hands in shape. It requires regular application and good products, for sure.
