Manic Beauty Monday - Neutrogena Sensitive Skin Sunscreen

Nothing to Disclose

Hello lovely readers! Summer has definitively arrived in the Midwest. I like to use a sunscreen this time of year, in addition to the broad spectrum SPF 30 in my tinted hydrated gel cream.

Today I will be reviewing the Neutrogena Sensitive Skin Sunscreen for facial use.

Review of mineral-based Neutrogena Sensitive Skin Sunscreen for beauty facial routine

I had been searching for a mineral-base sunscreen that I could incorporate into my beauty routine when I decided to grab the readily available Neutrogena Sensitive Skin Sunscreen.

Product description
This sunscreen features Neutrogena's PURESCREEN® technology. Per Neutrogena: PURESCREEN® is a physical sunscreen technology made from naturally sourced sunscreen ingredients known to be gentle on sensitive skin. Using blends of titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, PURESCREEN® technology helps form a screen between the skin and the sun to provide photostable broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection. The 3 fl oz flat bottle container makes it a nice size for traveling.

Formula
In addition to offering broad spectrum UVA / UVB protection, this sunscreen is fragrance-free and water-resistant for up to 80 minutes. I like applying after my facial serum and before my tinted gel cream. The formula is very nice. It feels substantial, but without being heavy or sticky. It also absorbs fairly quickly without leaving too much of a white residue behind.

Ingredients

Active
Titanium dioxide (4.9%), and zinc oxide (4.7%)

Inactive
Water, butyloctyl salicylate, Bbeswax, styrene/acrylates copolymer, silica, butylene glycol, PEG-8, glyceryl stearate, PEG-100 stearate, cetyl dimethicone, benzyl alcohol, dimethicone, methicone, arachidyl alcohol, polyhydroxystearic acid, hydroxyethyl acrylate/sodium acryloyldimethyl taurate copolymer, PEG-8 laurate, xanthan gum, isohexadecane, behenyl alcohol, trisiloxane, ethylhexylglycerin, disodium EDTA, trimethylsiloxysilicate, arachidyl glucoside, bisabolol, dipotassium glycyrrhizate, triethoxycaprylylsilane, BHT, polysorbate 60, stearic acid, methylisothiazolinone, polyaminopropyl biguanide, polymethyl methacrylate, tocopheryl acetate, ascorbic acid, pantothenic acid, retinyl palmitate, and alumina.

Now, there are some cons to this sunscreen. First, and most importantly, the active ingredients are below the recommended 5% (4.9% for titanium dioxide and 4.7% for zinc oxide). Also, the list of non-active ingredients is quite long, and it makes me wonder how "natural" this sunscreen really is (and yes, I do understand that they are basing their claim on the mineral-based sunscreen ingredients, but still...!)

Overall, this sunscreen will do just fine if you are not exposed to the elements for too long. It is available at drugstores and retails between $9.99 - $10.99 US.

Do you use a daily sunscreen, and do you prefer a mineral-base or a chemical-base sunscreen? I will be reviewing other mineral-based sunscreens that can be incorporated into your beauty routine, so make sure to check this spot again!

  2. I only use mineral sunscreens and Neutrogena is one that I usually have on hand. It's nice under makeup that also contains SPF for short term UV exposure. I don't use it for a full day out in the sun, tho.

  3. I tend to stick with chemical-based sunscreens since the mineral versions I've tried gave my skin a weird pastey appearance. That being said, I'm trying to get into mineral sunscreens again since they are more friendly for the ocean.

  4. I love La Roche Posay and Ultrasun's physical sunscreens - they are both tinted, so I can get away without foundation!

  5. I don't wear sunscreen daily because I'm a terrible person. I really should LOL. I usually stick with 30

  6. We use this! We have about 6 containers of sunscreen in our kitchen since we live in Arizona - the land of perpetual sun. (Today was 118!)

  7. This is what my hubs uses. He's extremely burn prone and this one keeps his skin safe!

  8. I really need to pay more attention to sun screen. Recently I've been all about sprays because it's faster with the kids!

  11. I need to check this out. I rarely wear make up, and even though I rarely go out side I always seem to have sunscreen on. I like that they have a high spf. I really need that.
